"The twinkle in your eye sends me on a high"
Another hot Garage and Loft jam that goes seriously hard. Often overlooked when discussing West End's truly classic tracks, this criminally underrated and classy soul-funk groove is the kind we love singing a light on. One of the coolest street-funk songs of all time. It slaps. Simple as that.

At once low key, restrained yet somehow totally explosive and sexually charged, "Hot Summer Nights" was originally released on West End Records in 1983. Love Club was an obscure one off project fronted by Jay "Mixin'" Dixon, a DJ with a long history at NYCs Kiss FM where he played deep House and Garage on the station's legendary master-mix show in the early 90s. The record also features a powerful, uncredited guest turn by vocalist Dana West, assisted by some top shelf studio personnel manning the boards.
A slick, synth heavy, futuristic sounding production, its sultry vocals extoll the virtues of eyes meeting across the dance-floor of an unknown discoteque on a sticky summer night. It's stellar electro-disco bliss that even features a rapped verse from Dixon - just on the right side of cheesy - midway through the track. Flip it over to side B for the instrumental mix / dub where the spacious, stripped back groove really comes to life.
It's impossible to overstate the importance of West End, not just in disco but in hip-hop and house as well, thanks to a roster that drew from soul, R&B, gospel, and funk. Led by co-founder Mel Cheren, a formidable NYC figure, West End Records helped introduce the twelve-inch single and fully fuelled the sound of both the Paradise Garage and Studio 54.
This bonafide underground dance classic has been carefully remastered by Be With regular Simon Francis and presented in the original West End Records house disco sleeve for the very first time. Cut at the prestigious Abbey Road Studios, we have made sure nothing is lost in the cut whilst the records have been pressed to the highest possible standard at the always stellar Record Industry in Holland. The artwork restoration has taken place here at Be With HQ and has that drop-dead gorgeous cover artwork popping like new. Buy on sight!
